I love pizza and have recently begun making it at home. It took a few failed attempts, but I finally got the hang of it.
Now, I’d like to see if I can hang with the pros in the restaurants. People know about the food scene in Washington, DC; but, the restaurants in Maryland rarely get the acclaim they deserve. That said,Matchbox – Rockville is one of the best places to get vintage pizza in MD. I checked them out myself and was NOT disappointed.
The small Matchbox Meat is a 10-inch pizza with pepperoni, spicy Italian sausage, crispy bacon, zesty tomato sauce, and mozzarella cheese for $15. Having reviewed Yelp prior to making the decision to dine at Matchbox, many said the Fire & Smoke pizza was above par. The Fire & Smoke comes with fire roasted red peppers, Spanish onions, chipotle pepper, tomato sauce, garlic puree, smoked gouda, and fresh basil. I decided to order the Matchbox Meat, substituting the smoked gouda for the mozzarella.
I could have replicated the famous “O” scene in When Harry Met Sally after one bite. After one slice… I couldn’t stop. I had to force myself with two slices remaining. The next day, I had the best two slices of microwaved pizza ever.
Based on a Gallup poll, Business Insider reports, “33% of all people in the U.S. want to move to another state.” Maryland is such an over-achiever. 47% would move, if given the opportunity. If you’re not one of the people leaving MD yesterday, make a reservation at Matchbox – Rockville and ask for Albert, the wonderful waiter who had me and my friend laughing throughout the whole meal, ending the experience by offering us an off-menu gelato and special brownie. Yea. Have you made your reservation yet?
