If you are paying close attention while driving down Oak Lawn, you will find a culinary gem nestled between the retail shops. After just one visit,La Duni became an instant favorite and my new choice for Sunday brunch. If you are looking for a new restaurant to try, here are at least three reasons that you should let La Duni stimulate your taste buds this weekend.
La Duni operates by the tag line “Best place to bring a date and seduce their senses.” That statement definitely holds true. The restaurant has an intimate feel that can sometimes be difficult to find in Dallas. Complete with soft music, cozy tables and romantic lighting, this Latin kitchen is the perfect place to bring a date. Even if you aren’t looking for an instant boost to your love life (why aren’t you looking for an instant boost to your love life?), there are other reasons you should consider adding La Duni to your ’Must Eat’ list.
Did I say date night? I meant date brunch. Brunch is quickly becoming one of the most popular meals among younger crowds in the DFW, and La Duni caters to that market. On Saturday and Sunday from 9am-3pm, the restaurant offers brunch options than can compete with the best menus in Dallas. They have a diverse offering of Latin breakfast foods including: breakfast tacos, Butter Brioche French Toast (more on the pastries later), Filete A Caballo (steak and eggs), Salmon Scramble (eggs, salmon & serrano cream cheese with an English muffin) and more combinations of eggs and salsa than you can possibly imagine (go ahead, try and imagine it). I could go on and on about all of the delicious options La Duni has to offer, but let’s be honest: you were sold at breakfast tacos.
“Where there is cake there is love…” This phrase is justifiably written across La Duni’s walls. If you love cake or pastries, then this is the restaurant for you. If you don’t love cake yet, you will after you leave this restaurant. Have you ever heard of Tres Leches? La Duni steps it up a notch by offering the award-winning Cuatro Leches. I am not exaggerating when I tell you it is one of the best desserts I have ever had the good fortune of tasting. This restaurant is known for their cakes, and they do not disappoint. I have not had the chance to taste their entire dessert menu, but that is a task that has been happily added to my to-do list.
This restaurant has a great atmosphere, is reasonably priced, and offers some of the best desserts in the city. Even if you don’t want to stop in for a full meal, you owe it to yourself to order an espresso and a pastry from La Duni as soon as possible.
